The BORNEO WORLD MUSIC EXPO was launched at WOMEX 2012 in Thessaloniki, Greece. This event has temporarily suspended and to be continued probably in 2016.

SARAWAK, BORNEO

Located on the exotic island of Borneo, Sarawak’s ancient rainforest canopies the world’s largest flower, countless species of flora and fauna, yet to be discovered inhabiting the rainforest. For those who enjoy at its best, Sarawak’s rainforest is one of the most diverse and protected ecosystem in the world.


Kuching is the capital city and it is the main gateway to Sarawak with Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia, SilkAir, Tiger Airways, Batavia Air and Royal Brunei Airlines making regular flights from the federal capital of Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Brunei and Pontianak in Indonesia. 

 

There are 18 national parks, 4 wildlife sanctuaries and 5 nature reserves found in Sarawak and among them that need no introduction is the Mulu National Park that has been enlisted as the UNESCO World Heritage Site.  

 

Apart from traditional festivals like Gawai Dayak, Sarawak also has other events that are aimed at attracting visitors to the state. Among them are the Pesta Kaul, Kuching Festival, Rainforest World Music Festival, Borneo Jazz Festival, Asia Music Festival, Sarawak Regatta, Borneo Cultural Festival and World Harvest Festival. All these festivals have successfully attracted scores of visitors to Sarawak’s shores.

Borneo is the 3rd largest island in the world and is blessed with an abundance of both marine and terrestrial riches. 

With rainforests, river deltas and coral reefs to mountains, tropical islands and limestone cave systems, Malaysian Borneo is a truly inspiring place to visit for spectacular wilderness and wildlife that is both above and blow the water. 

The island can lay claim to having the highest diversity of trees in a single hectare, the greatest known concentration of orchids anywhere in the world on the highest mountain in south-east Asia, and many rare and endemic species of flora and fauna.
Rejang River Cruise in Borneo
Visit Central region of Sarawak in Borneo and explore the mighty Rejang river on a half-day boat cruise. Rejang river is the longest river in Malaysia.

Sibu Night Market is among the famous tourist attraction. Opens daily in the evening except heavy rains. They sells varities of local foods and products. 

Sibu Central Market is the largest indoor market in Malaysia, house more than 1,200 hawker stalls in one roof.

Asia Music Festival - October 2014

Check this out!. This is the 2nd edition of Asia Music Festival. Event this year will feature musicians from India, Taiwan, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia that will perform over the 2-days festival.


To be held in Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia from 3-4 October 2014 and the Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club will be the home venue. Around 3000 people attending this event when it was first kicked off last year. Ticket price is RM30 only and RM15 for children.
